A Wayne County sheriff's deputy sustained minor injuries following a vehicle and foot chase on Saturday.
Deputy Chris Gustafson attempted to stop a vehicle being driven by Clarence Parks Jr. when Parks allegedly sped away from Gustafson.
As Gustafson chased Parks' vehicle, Parks allegedly began driving the wrong way down U.S. 70 West before stopping in a residential area and fleeing on foot.
Gustafson chased Parks on foot, eventually stopping Parks and arresting him. During the arrest, Parks put up a fight and caused both men to sustain minor injuries. The men were treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Gustafson was released, and Parks was placed under a $20,000 secured bond.
"Just bumps and bruises that happened when he was arresting him," said Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office of Gustafson's injuries. "Nothing that will take him out of work."
Parks, 41, of 305 Lenoir St., LaGrange, was charged with felony flee to elude, driving while intoxicated, driving while license revoked, speeding, careless and reckless driving and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.
