Camp Kilowatt, the popular energy camp for youth, will be held at Wayne Community College the week of July 11-14.
This marks the eighth year for the summer camp, a product of the college's Applied Technologies Division and financially supported by the Duke Energy Foundation.
It is divided into two segments -- for rising fifth- through eighth-graders and rising ninth- through 12th-graders -- going on simultaneously that week, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
In addition to alternative energy, participants explore other STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math, areas.
This year's focus will be on robotics, says camp director Steven Reese.
The camp will kick off with students assembling their own robot from a kit.
"This year, Duke Energy wanted us to focus on intense robotics so this is what we're doing, robots the whole time," he said. "The first day and a half they're building robots. While two are building, one will get some programming (training). They'll all get programming but one will be the lead.
The camp is limited to 44 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Registration is $125 for those who register by June 10. The fee covers lunches, snacks and a T-shirt for each camper.
Registration forms and information can be found online at www.waynecc.edu/campkilowatt. Financial aid is also available, by contacting Reese at srreese@waynecc.edu.
