Center Street will host about 100 antique and modern cars Saturday during the first Center Street Car Show.

The show is actually made up of two different groups holding shows together. The first group, the Antique Automobile Club of America, is the oldest and largest antique car organization in the country, with around 60,000 members world-wide. The AACA focuses mainly on restoring traditional classic cars to their original factory condition. Organized in 1935 in Philadelphia, the AACA has 14 chapters in the North Carolina Region. The state is the largest AACA Region in the country. To participate in the AACA show, one must already be a member of the organization.

If tricked-out modern cars are more your style, the Wayne County Cruisers will also be in attendance. The Cruisers' vehicles are generally more customized and modified to meet the personal preferences of the owner, as opposed to the historic restorations done by the AACA. The show is open to anyone, with any kind of car or truck, as long as they register at the site between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. There is a $20 registration fee.

Jeff Westbrook, who is a member of both organizations, said that the show should draw people from around the state and beyond.

"It's the first year, so it can be tough to tell, but since the AACA is a national organization we should see some people from other states there," he said.

The AACA has a history of donating to various charitable causes. Some of the proceeds this year will go to local veterans associations, Westbrook said.
