A Wayne County public school teacher was arrested Friday on felony larceny charges and misdemeanor larceny charges.

Tara Denise Tiller-Deeming, 47, of 2605 Pine Knoll Drive, Kinston, was arrested for three counts of felony larceny from a merchant and one misdemeanor count of larceny.

Ms. Tiller-Deeming was arrested at Sam's Club at 2811 North Park Drive. Maj. Anthony Carmon with the investigations division of the Goldsboro Police Department said he did not know what happened that led to Ms. Tiller-Deeming's arrest.

Ms. Tiller-Deeming was placed under a $3,500 secured bond and confined in the Wayne County Jail. As of this morning, Ms. Tiller-Deeming had posted bond and was not in jail. Her first appearance in Wayne County Court is today.

Wayne County Public Schools Director of Communications Services Ken Derksen confirmed that Ms. Tiller-Deeming is a teacher of exceptional children at Eastern Wayne Elementary School.

Derksen could not say what disciplinary actions will be taken against the teacher.

"It is a personnel issue, so I can't discuss those details," Derksen said. "I can confirm that the she is not in the classroom today and that the (school) district is investigating."
