A truck that disappeared into the Neuse River on March 31 was recovered Wednesday by Wayne County authorities roughly 300 yards from the boat landing where it initially went into the river.
Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said a fisherman on the river Wednesday morning called authorities and reported they had spotted the truck.
The 2001 pewter in color Chevrolet truck was retrieved from the river by authorities around 11 a.m.
"We actually got it out of the river around 11 a.m.," Effler said. "A fisherman called it in around 8 a.m. The water levels in the river had gone down some so we could actually get to the truck."
Effler said the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, the Arr-Mac dive and water response team and the Arrington Fire Department responded to the scene to recover the truck from the river Wednesday.
The Chevrolet truck is currently suspected as being a stolen vehicle, and was filled with mud and debris when authorities pulled it from the river.
"We've got some leads (on who might have stolen the truck), but not enough for any arrests right now," Effler said.
Effler confirmed that nobody was in the truck when authorities located it.
The truck disappeared into the river on March 31 just before 8 a.m. at Prices Landing at 2042 Bill Lane Blvd.
The investigation into who stole the truck is ongoing.
