Morning commuters and those typically caught in afternoon rush hour in and around Seymour Johnson Air Force Base can expect further delays Wednesday.
A mass casualty exercise will be taking place throughout the day.
According to a press release issued late Monday, the 4th Fighter Wing will engage in training scenarios -- beginning early Wednesday morning lasting until about 4:30 p.m. -- meant to serve as a training platform for its airmen in the event of a real world attack or disaster.
Residents and commuters can expect increased activity and noise, including base emergency vehicles entering and leaving the base throughout the day.
City and county first responders, as well as Wayne Memorial Hospital are engaging in the exercise with the base, something Air Force officials say the hope will strengthen community ties.
