Wayne County Shrine Club members earn leadership roles

Two members of the Wayne Shrine Club have leadership offices in the Sudan Shrine during its annual meeting and elections on Jan. 23 in New Bern.
Cale L. Grady of Albertson was elected potentate (president) of Sudan Shriners.
Grady then appointed Thomas "Tom" Ferrell, a resident and businessman from Mount Olive, as outer guard for the year 2016.
Grady is a member of the Lenoir County and Wayne Shrine clubs. He is the second youngest Shriner in the history of Sudan Temple to be elected potentate.
In 2008, past Potentate Bobby Waller appointed Cale to the Divan (board of directors). Over the past eight years Cale has moved up through the various board positions.
The term potentate is a ceremonial title given to the president/CEO of the Sudan Shriners.
He is directly responsible for the overall management of Shrine Center operations to ensure not only that the several hundred children are provided care from Shriners Hospitals, but also to ensure the future of the greatest philanthropy in the world is sustained.
An added responsibility in for Grady will be to oversee the preparations for Sudan's 100th anniversary which starts in 2016 and extends into 2017.
Grady is married to the former Jamie Marie Johnson. They have two teenage sons, Jameson and Caleb.
Grady is employed with 3HC (Home, Health & Hospice) in Kinston.
The term outer guard is a ceremonial term given to the newest member of the five appointed members of the board of directors for Sudan Shrines.
Ferrell is a member of the Wayne Shrine Club.
He is the president/general manager, of a third-generation family business, E.T. Ferrell & Son Plumbing & Heating Company in Mount Olive founded by his grandfather in 1935.
He is married to the former Milly Maxwell. They have three sons, Thomas, Sam and Jake.
Sudan's 4,500-man organization is one of the largest of the 199 temples in Shriners International.
Sudan Shriners jurisdiction covers east of Interstate 95 from the Virginia border to South Carolina and encompasses 38 Shrine clubs and 47 parade/units.
Total membership for Shriners International is approximately 350,00 members. Temples are located across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Germany, the Philippines and Brazil.
Currently, Sudan has over 550 patients at this time receiving treatment at Shriners Hospitals for pediatric care, burn treatment, lip and cleft pallet, and treatment for spinal injuries.
