The Goldsboro Mayor's Youth Council will be holding a fundraiser at P.T.'s Grille on Monday night from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in an effort to gather funds to provide scholarships for high school seniors currently on the youth council.
Money raised at the event will also go towards sending the 16 high school seniors on the youth council to the state youth council conference in Charlotte this year, said youth council adviser Lou Uzzell.
The youth council will receive 10 percent of all sales made during the two and a half hour event.
"There will be a tip jar, also. The youth council will be there to greet people and tell them a little bit about what we do," Ms. Uzzell said.
The conference that a portion of the money raised will go towards is an opportunity for the seniors on Goldsboro's youth council to interact with other senior youth council members throughout the state.
"The purpose of the youth council is to get high school kids involved in community service and expose them to leadership opportunities, and allow them to collaborate with other youth council members across the state," Ms. Uzzell said. "It teaches them leadership and team building values, and its a way for them to learn about the community and how to be an advocate for their community. It really gives high school students a chance to do positive things in their community."
