Two masked gunmen arrived a few minutes late when attempting to rob the Family Dollar at 423 S. George St., Tuesday.
The would-be robbers got to the front door minutes after 9 p.m. and found employees had locked up to begin closing down the store.
The men pulled on the door at the front of the business, but could not get in. They then headed east on foot, according to the report.
According to a Goldsboro police report, the suspects were described as two black men, ages unknown.
One suspect wore a black jacket and he carried a long gun.
The second suspect wore a gray hoodie. Both men had red scarves over their faces.
Maj. Anthony Carmon said there was no further information at this time regarding the identities of the suspects.
"Not that I am going to release," he said.
Patrol officers responded to the scene, but located no one in the area matching the suspects' descriptions.
