Goldsboro attorney William Curtis Stackhouse filed Friday for district court judge for the 8th Judicial District.
Stackhouse filed for the seat that had been held by the late Tim Finan.
Filing earlier for that seat was Kinston attorney Annette Turik. In November, Mrs. Turik was appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to complete Finan's unexpired term that ends in December of 2016.
Both Stackhouse and Mrs. Turik had been nominated for the office by members of the 8th Judicial District Bar. Stackhouse was the top vote-getter in the bar balloting, with more than twice as many votes as Mrs. Turik.
Filing for the 2016 elections ended at noon today and as of press time this morning there were no primary races.
As of that time none of the partisan candidates had opposition.
In nonpartisan races, such as those for judges and school board, a primary is not held unless three or more candidates file for the same office.
Candidates for district, statewide and national offices file at the state Board of Elections office in Raleigh. Legislative candidates file in their home counties.
