The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at Murphy Express, 103 Highway 581 North, that took place Sunday night.

The incident happened at 11:52 p.m.

According to a Goldsboro police report, an unknown black male armed with a handgun walked into the store and demanded that the clerk "hand over all the money." The clerk complied and the suspect fled west on foot toward the Wal-Mart parking lot. The suspect is described as 5-feet-7 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds.

In a separate incident, A Goldsboro man reported being assaulted and robbed after leaving a store in the city Sunday night around 10 p.m. Leslie Earl Ashford, 39, said he was walking in the 400 block of Magnolia Street at 9:40 p.m. when he was hit from behind. Ashford turned around and was struck in the face with an unknown caliber handgun and then choked. The suspect took $20 in cash from Ashford and then left.
