A Goldsboro man charged with firing his gun at a Goldsboro police officer during a foot pursuit Monday has since posted bail and is now wanted by the N.C. Department of Probation and Parole.

Shadell Barksdale, 25, 904 S. Pineview Ave., is considered armed and dangerous, according to a press release.

Officer Timothy Christie initiated a traffic stop at the corner of South Slocumb Street and East Elm Street Monday night at 11:57 p.m., according to the release. The driver of the vehicle -- later identified as Barksdale -- jumped and ran on foot.

"It was a speeding violation," Maj. Anthony Carmon said.

As Christie exited his patrol vehicle to give chase, Barksdale fired a shot at the police officer. After a short foot chase during which he ran behind the Community Crisis Center at 607 S. Slocumb St., police caught up to Barksdale behind a residence and took him into custody without incident.

According to the press release, a .45 caliber hand gun was recovered about 15 feet away from Barksdale's vehicle. A spent .45 caliber shell casing was located 10 feet from the vehicle.

Barksdale is charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm, by a convicted felon, possession of crack cocaine, driving while license revoked, speeding, resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer and discharging a firearm within the city limits. Barksdale's bond was set at $44,000 secured, and his first appearance in Wayne County District Court is scheduled for Dec. 3.

According to the press release, neither Barksdale nor Christie were injured in the incident. Barksdale is now wanted by probation and parole for felony probation violation. Anyone with information regarding Barksdale's whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255 or text tips to 919-222-4230. Callers can remain anonymous and tips leading to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Although one weapon was recovered during the incident, police caution that Barksdale could have access to other firearms.

"If your going to do it once you can do it again." Carmon said.
