A Dudley woman is dead and investigators are working to identify several suspects after two armed men and an armed woman broke into a home on Arrington Bridge Road and started shooting Thursday night, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office investigation report.
The incident took place at 10:47 p.m. at the victim's home located at 3479 Arrington Bridge Road.
Georgina Fajardo, 30, died later at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
According to the report, the three unknown subjects first tried pulling open the front and rear doors of the residence. When both doors failed to open, the assailants broke out and climbed through a bedroom window and a bathroom window to gain entry.
Once inside, they started shooting, the report said.
"We don't really know, or we can't release at this time, any information about what went on inside the residence," Sheriff Larry Pierce said. "There was an exchange of gunfire involving multiple individuals and, unfortunately, the woman who lived there was hit," he said.
A 31-year-old man, Sebastian Vargas, and four children -- two boys ages 11 and 7, and two girls ages 6 and 2 -- also lived at the residence and were home at the time of the break-in, the report said. No one else was injured.
Pierce said investigators are working to identify all of the parties involved in the incident, a few of whom have already be identified. But it is too early in the investigation to definitively separate suspects from witnesses, he said.
"No one is in custody at this time," Pierce said.
There is also no information yet indicating whether or not the shooting is gang-related, but that is something the sheriff's office also is investigating. Pierce said he does not believe the public should be afraid.
"I think this is just a case where these individuals were attempting to locate another individual," he said.
