A teen is dead following a shooting in the 1900 block of South Slocumb Street Thursday night, bringing the number of fatal shootings in the city this year to seven.
The Goldsboro Police Department said it has no suspects and no motive, and due to weather, investigators have not been able to canvass the neighborhood to look for witnesses.
Ni-Quawn Orlando Kornegay, 19, of 2203 Day Circle was pronounced dead on the scene by Wayne County EMS.
The call came at 10:08 p.m.
Police officers were dispatched to 2000 S. Slocumb St., where callers at the Brookside Mart -- a convenience store located at the entrance to the housing community at Seymour Drive -- said they had seen a man with a gun, according to a press release.
While en route, the call was upgraded to a shots fired call, Maj. Anthony Carmon said.
A check of the area led to the discovery of Kornegay, lying on the side of the road suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
"He was on the sidewalk on the Slocumb Street side by the playground and basketball courts at the Grand," Carmon said.
The Grand at Day Circle, formerly known as Green Acres and Courtyard, is the name of the apartment complex where Kornegay lived.
Carmon said there are no suspects to report as of yet and witnesses have not come forward. No armed suspect was located at Brookside, he said.
Asked if the armed man seen at Brookside might have been the shooter or possibly the victim, Carmon said there was no way to be sure.
"We don't even know if it was either of them," he said.
Hours later, in a potentially unrelated incident at 2:04 a.m., a man driving south in the 600 block of South Slocumb Street told police a white Chevrolet Impala approached from the east on East Elm Street and opened fire at his vehicle. His Cadillac SUV was struck three times by bullets, the report said. No injuries were reported but more than $500 damage to the vehicle is estimated on the report.
