Wayne County Public Schools had not made a decision to dismiss classes early due to the weather as of press time.
Ken Derksen, director of communication services for the district, said this morning that officials were staying in close contact with emergency management services and monitoring the weather as to how it is expected to affect Wayne County.
"The biggest factor that would influence early dismissal would be sustained winds, buses on the roadway and of course flash flooding due to heavy rains," he said. Strong winds are especially troublesome for buses traveling on the roads, he added.
Meanwhile, after-school activities for today have been canceled. Derksen said notification was sent home Thursday afternoon in anticipation of the inclement weather predicted.
