Declining membership and a lack of new members are causing the Goldsboro Civitans Club to turn in its charter after 75 years of service to Goldsboro and the surrounding community.
The club's final meeting will be held Friday at noon at the K&W Cafeteria.
Anyone who has ever been a member is invited.
During the meeting members will present donations to several organizations and close the books on 75 years of dedication and memories, said J.B. Price of Grantham, North Carolina Civitans District East director. The club was chartered in November of 1940. The Civitans organization supports mentally and physically challenged children and other service projects. One of the Goldsboro club's main focuses has been support of Edgewood Developmental School.
The club has donated televisions, an alarm system, washing machines, refrigerator and with monetary gifts. Over the years, the Goldsboro club has supported the Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw. For the past five years the club has sponsored a golf tournament in October to raise money to help support projects.
