A Kinston man is recovering today after being shot in the back in the 200 block of Day Circle late Tuesday.
Investigators said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Marquis Johnson, 18, told police he was getting out of his vehicle after parking in front of the apartments at the Grand at Day Circle -- also known as Courtyard -- when he was shot in the back.
Police have not developed a suspect but are working several leads.
"We have leads that we are following up on, but were can't definitively say that we know who the suspect is," Maj. Anthony Carmon said.
Johnson and another man, Michael McFarland, of Goldsboro, were walking in front of the 200 building at the apartment complex when he shots were fired, the report said.
A bullet also struck and shattered the passenger window of a Ford Explorer that belonged to a resident of the apartments. The estimated damage to the vehicle is listed on the report as $200.
