Members of Wayne County Public Schools Transportation hook a wrecked school bus to a tow truck to remove it from a ditch early today on Shady Grove Road in Mount Olive. The bus went into a ditch due to the heavy fog with only the driver and one student from Southern Wayne High School on board.

The driver of a Wayne County Public Schools bus suffered minor injuries when the vehicle he was driving flipped on its side following a wreck this morning along Shady Grove Road in Mount Olive.

One student -- from Southern Wayne High School -- was on the bus at the time of the incident. The student was not injured.

According to the state Highway Patrol, the bus went of the road and into the ditch, turning over on its side. Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department and Wayne County EMS responded.

Trooper Benny Grady said early morning fog contributed to the wreck.

Wayne County Public Schools communications director Ken Derksen said the bus driver, John Tart, was still being evaluated.

"I know he sustained a bump on the head and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for observation," Derksen said.

There is no word yet on whether Tart will face charges.
