The North Carolina Coastal Pines has announced the appointment of Eileen Miller to the role of program director.

Wayne County is one of 31 counties in the Coastal Pines council that includes most of eastern North Carolina.

Miller will be responsible for providing support to Girl Scout Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador troops throughout the council. She will also oversee the Girl Scout Gold Award and Girl Scout Silver Award programs, which are the highest awards a Girl Scout can earn.

"We are pleased to welcome Eileen Miller to the program team where she will focus on the implementation of our older girl programs and Girl Scouting's highest awards," said Meridith Orr, program executive at Girl Scouts -- North Carolina Coastal Pines. "Bringing strong leadership and management skills, she is the ideal person to oversee the prestigious Gold and Silver award programs and serve as a positive role model for Girl Scouts seeking to make lasting changes to their community.

With more than 15 years of service building and managing community partnerships at Booz Allen Hamilton, Miller brings skills in management operations, volunteer recruitment and retention, and program implementation to her new position. Prior to her tenure at Booz Allen Hamilton, Miller owned and operated a florist business for eight years in the Arlington, Va. area. The business earned the honor of Small Business of the Year and she was named Entrepreneur of the Year.

"I am honored to join Girl Scouts, the pre-eminent leadership development organization for girls, as their new Program Director Teen Girl Scouts," said Miller. "I look forward to applying my experience and background to uphold the organization's mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place."

The Girl Scout experience and the receipt of the Gold Award have proven to have lasting impact on young women. According to research by the Girl Scout Research Institute, Gold Award recipients are more ambitious and place a greater emphasis on a successful career, being a leader, and having financial security. Last year, Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines honored 66 Girl Scouts from the council with the Gold Award, the highest honor in the organization.

Miller holds a bachelor's degree in business, communications, and applied technology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is in the process of completing her master's degree with a focus on communications and nonprofit management.
