One-stop voting begins in September

One-stop early voting hours have been set by the Wayne County Board of Elections for the Oct. 6 Goldsboro municipal primary.
The days and hours are: Thursday, Sept. 24, and Friday, Sept. 25 and Monday, Sept. 28 through Friday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The only one-stop voting location will be at the Wayne County Board of Elections office at 209 S. William St.
Absentee voting by mail begins on Sept. 6 and ends at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5.
Requests for an absentee ballot must be made in writing and received in the Wayne County Board of Elections office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The Board of Elections will meet at 9 a.m. on Sept. 15, 22, 29 at 5 p.m. and on Oct. 5 to approve absentee ballot applications.
There are only two races on the primary ballot. There are four candidates in the mayor's race and three in the District 4 City Council race.
Voters will select their top two choices in each race.
The winners will face off in the Nov. 3 municipal election.
Candidates in the mayor's race are Chuck Allen, who currently represents District 5 and serves as mayor pro-tem; Henry Jinnette; D.A. Stuart; and Myelle Thompson.
Candidates in the District 4 council race are incumbent Charles Williams and Tondalayo Clark and Bevan J. Foster.
Polls will be open on Oct. 6 from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. in the following precincts:
* 5 - Belfast Fire Station
* 6 - Saulston United Methodist Church
* 7 - New Hope Fire Station
* 9 - Westwood United Methodist Church
* 10 - Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
* 11 - Greenleaf Christian Church
* 12 - Adamsville Baptist Church
* 13 - Family of Faith Community Church
* 14 - New Hope Friends Church
* 17 - Wayne Center
* 18 - WAGES building
* 19 - First African Baptist Church - B
* 20 - First African Baptist Church - A
* 21 - St. Luke United Methodist Church
* 22 - Faith Alliance Church
* 23 - The Hydrant Wesleyan Church
* 29 - Wayne County Public Library.
The registration books for the primary will close on Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m.
To be eligible to vote in the primary a person must be 18 years of age and have lived in the city for 30 days by the Oct. 6 election.
Registration application are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Board of Elections office. Downloadable forms are also on the Board of Elections website.
Applications are available as well at the Division of Motor Vehicles driver's license examiner's officer and the Wayne County Public Library, 1001 E. Ash St., or any of its branches.
Mail-in registration applications must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service no later than 5 p.m. on Sept. 11.
