A single-vehicle wreck on East Ash Street near Oak Forest Road knocked out power in the area when a driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole early this morning.

Residents, businesses and two local schools were affected by the power outage, and repairs continued well into the morning impacting the early commute.

Duke Energy Progress workers were repairing the downed pole causing minor delays for buses and parents dropping off students at Greenwood Middle School.

Meadow Lane Elementary School had no delays, Wayne County Public Schools communications director Ken Derksen said.

Jordan Matthew Miller, 20, of Goldsboro, suffered minor injuries and will face charges, according to a Goldsboro police report.

Miller is charged with failure to maintain lane control and exceeding the posted speed limit, Maj. Anthony Carmon said.

No alcohol was involved.

The wreck took place at 2 a.m. and began approximately 337 feet east of Oak Forest Road.

"There is a blind curve there near Oak Forest Road. The driver lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road to the right and overcorrected. He then came back across the roadway and struck a utility pole," Carmon said.

"Power was knocked out from the Golden Dragon (restaurant) to Greenwood middle," he added.

Miller was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Delays began with the morning commute and slowed the rate of student drop-offs by parents and school buses at Greenwood Middle.

"Any students who were late today were not given tardies," Derksen said.

Power was restored to both Greenwood and Meadow Lane by the time classes began today, he said.
