Investigators with the Goldsboro Police Department have charged the man they say is responsible for opening fire on two people in a car stopped at a traffic light near the Walmart shopping center on North Spence Avenue on Monday.
The shooting took place at the corner of North Spence and Royall avenues at 1:25 p.m.
Cornelius Donnell Weeks, 27, 804 N. Pineview Ave., is charged with attempted first-degree murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Weeks has been placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under an $800,000 secured bond.
Maj. Anthony Carmon said the attempted murder charge stems from the details of the case.
"Well, they knew each other and the victim felt in fear of his life," Carmon said.
The victim identified Weeks, telling investigators that a man he recognized stood in the parking lot of the Sound and Security car audio and electronics store at 2605 Royall Ave. and fired shots into his vehicle. The victim's statement in conjunction with eye witness accounts led to Weeks' identification.
"We verified it through the witnesses," Carmon said.
Raleigh police officers then located and arrested Weeks in Raleigh on Wednesday.
Weeks is due to appear in Wayne County District Court later today for a first appearance.
