A Goldsboro High School football player was allegedly attacked with a knife by a spectator following practice at Goldsboro High School Wednesday afternoon, according to a report filed with the Goldsboro Police Department.

The 16-year-old victim told police that the juvenile suspect in the incident approached him during practice and began arguing with him. When the argument escalated, the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed the victim on an unspecified finger of his right hand.

Maj. Anthony Carmon with the Investigative Services Division of the Goldsboro Police Department said that since the case involved juveniles, information he could provide on the case was limited.

Carmon said he was not sure if the victim reported the incident to police right away or if he waited to come to police with the matter.

School official Janet Kruger provided the name of the suspected juvenile in the incident to police when the report was filed, but the name is not listed on the report since the suspect is underage.

The suspect is being investigated by the Goldsboro Police Department for misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor bringing a weapon on campus.

Goldsboro High School football coach Bennett Johnson said he could not comment on the incident when reached by phone early today.

Brain Weeks, principal of Goldsboro High School, did not return a call this morning requesting comment on the incident.
