Wayne Memorial Hospital's Paugh honored

J. William "Bill" Paugh, president and CEO of Wayne Health Corp., has been awarded the North Carolina Hospital Association's 2015 Distinguished Service Award.

The award is given each year to a hospital chief executive and honors the individual's unique service to his or her institution, the health care field, and NCHA.

Paugh received the award July 30 at the NCHA summer membership meeting.

He was recognized for his leadership with the Association having served as chairman of its board of trustees in 2014.

"The Association is proud to honor Bill Paugh for his tremendous support of NCHA through the years," said William A. Pully, Association president.

Initially employed out of college as an administrative assistant, Paugh quickly worked his way through the ranks of health care.

Named a 1987 Healthcare "Up and Comer" by Modern Healthcare magazine, Paugh has had a long and respected career, working as senior vice president of Cleveland Memorial Hospital in Shelby, division vice president of SunHealth Corporation, and president & CEO of St. Joseph Center for Life, Inc .

Known for his talents in significant facility renovation, construction and finance, Paugh has overseen a number of critical projects as president and CEO of Wayne Health Corp. over the past 15 years, including a major expansion of the emergency department and the addition of an interventional cardiology program.

Paugh has announced that he will retire in December 2015.

Paugh also is known for his strengths in physician relations and contract negotiations.

NCHA is a trade association representing more than 130 hospitals providing acute care, rehabilitative, behavioral, psychiatric and veterans' services.

The Association promotes improved delivery of quality and affordable health care in North Carolina through leadership, advocacy, information, and education in its members' interest and for public benefit.
