A quick-thinking bystander is being credited with pulling a young child from the waters at Busco Beach and performing CPR until emergency workers could arrive.
Little information was available prior to press time Saturday night, but Wayne County Sheriff's Office Major Tom Effler said the child appeared to be doing well.
The child is between 2 and 3 years of age.
Effler said he had spoken with one of the deputies who responded to the call that came in around 7:30 Saturday night, but did not know whether the child was a boy or girl.
"A citizen actually saved the child," Effler said. "They got the child out of the water and did CPR until rescue arrive."
Effler said it was still early in the case and that he did not have any more information on the person who pulled the child from the water.
One of the deputies who responded drove the ambulance to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Department so that rescue personnel could work on the child.
That is not an unusual practice, Effler said.
"The best news is that the child seems to doing well at this point," he said.
