More names added to ballot list

The second week of filing for local elections is under way, and plenty of candidates have thrown their hats into the ring.
The filing period ends at noon Friday.
As it stands, only Douglas Allan Stuart of 408 S. William St., has filed to run for mayor of Goldsboro.
Current city council member Charles Williams of 1406 S. Slocumb St. filed to run again to represent District 4, and has opposition for the position from Tondalayo Alicia Clark of 704 S. Taylor St.
Council member Gene Aycock of 319 Bayleaf Drive has filed to run again for District 6, and has no opposition to date.
Council member Michael Headen of 201 S. Virginia St. has filed to continue representing District 1, and does not yet have opposition.
Council member Bill Broadaway of 1903 E. Walnut St., has filed for re-election for District 2, and currently has no opposition.
Two more people have filed to run for the town board in Mount Olive, bringing the total to five -- Jerry Harper of 211 Crest Drive is running for commissioner at-large, and has opposition from Ray Thompson of 504 Wells St.; Thomas Preston of 133 Valley Road is running to represent District 3; Joe Scott of 824 N. Church St. is running to represent District 4; Kenneth Talton of 210 W. James St. has filed to represent District 1.
Ray McDonald of 615 W. Main St. has filed to run for mayor of Mount Olive.
Darron Flowers, the current mayor of Fremont, has filed to run for mayor again. The entire board of aldermen in Fremont has filed to run for re-election to their current positions. They include Al Lewis, District 1; Leon Mooring, District 2; W.T. Smith, District 3; Harold Cuddington, District 4; Joyce Reid, District 5; and Annie Lewis, District 6.
Three candidates have filed to run for Pikeville's town board: Steve West, Robert Hooks and Charles Hooks III. Lyman Galloway's term is unexpired on Pikeville's town board, but the seat is up for grabs because of Galloway being appointed to the seat instead of elected.
Greg Ricker of 441 Dogwood Trail has filed to run for the position of the Village of Walnut Creek councilman, and remains the only candidate to file for the position.
Three candidates have filed for the Fork Township sanitary district board: Andy Hartley of 307 Friendswood Drive; David Jackson of 126 Friendly Drive; and Russell Wiggins of 1645 Old Smithfield Road.
Four candidates have filed for positions on the Northwestern Wayne sanitary district board: Danny Tillman of 233 Sleepy Hollow Road; Walter Bridgers of 1409 Nor-Am Road; David Pittman of 571 Pinkney Road; and James Kirby of 3985 N.C. 581 North.
Two candidates have filed for positions on the Southern Wayne sanitary district board: Efton Sager of 401 Southwood Drive and Kevin Jones of 281 Providence Church Road.
Five candidates have filed for positions on the Southwestern Wayne sanitary district board: David Bennett of 320 Falling Creek Church Road; Jimmy Cox of 3269 Old Grantham Road; Daryll Overton of 3178 U.S. 13 South; Ruby Minchew of 486 North Jordan's Chapel Road; and Alan Lumpkin of 656 Paul Hare Road.
The following offices are up for election:
* Goldsboro: Mayor Al King; Michael Headen, District 1; Bill Broadaway, District 2; William Goodman, District 3; Charles J. Williams Sr., District 4; Chuck Allen, District 5; and Gene Aycock, District 6.
* Mount Olive: Mayor Ray McDonald Sr.; Ray Thompson, at-large; Kenny Talton, District 1; Jerry Armstrong Sr., District 2; and Joe Scott, District 4. The District 3 seat has been vacant since February following the death of George Fulghum.
* Fremont: Mayor Darron Flowers; Alvester Lewis, District 1; Leon Mooring, District 2; W.T. Smith, District 3; Harold Cuddington, District 4; Joyce C. Reid, District 5; and Annie R. Lewis, District 6.
* Eureka: Three of five at-large board members, Malcolm Finlay, Billy Davis and Louis Massey; four-year terms.
* Pikeville: four of five at-large commissioners, Stephen A. West, Quinton R. "Jay" West (unexpired term), Charles Hooks and Robert Hooks; four-year terms.
* Seven Springs: Mayor Alan Cash (two-year term); three of five commissioners, Danny Carter, Karla Griffin and Steve Potter; four years terms.
* Walnut Creek: Two of four council members, Greg Ricker and David "Stoney" Sloan; four-year terms. Mayor Danny Jackson's four-year term is up also. However, the mayor is selected by the council.
The sanitary district elections are:
* Fork: Andy Hartley and David B. Jackson, who have both filed for re-election.
* Northwestern Wayne: David W. Pittman, Walter F. Bridgers, James S. Kirby, Billy Lynch Jr., and Danny K. Tillman.
* Southwestern Wayne: All five seats are up for election.
* Southern Wayne: Three of four seats are up for election.
