With one day left to file for local offices, two more candidates have thrown their hats in the ring. One of them is Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Allen, who filed to run for mayor of Goldsboro this morning.

Allen said he had discussed his potential candidacy with current Mayor Al King several months back, and King told him he would not run for mayor again if Allen ran. Following that conversation, Allen said several city council members expressed their support. He will be running against Douglas Allen Stuart.

In other races, Bevan Julius Clark, of 1502 S. Slocumb St., has filed to run for District 4 against incumbent Charles James Williams, and joins Tondalayo Alicia Clark in doing so.

Also new to the mix is Cynthia Fallin Dupuy, of 102 Wooten Point, who is running against Gregory Andrew Ricker and Daniel Arthur Jackson for Walnut Creek councilman.

Despite the deadline for filing being less than 24 hours away, no candidate has filed to run for District 3 or District 5 of the Goldsboro City Council. This includes incumbents Chuck Allen and William Goodman.

The only city council member who is running this year and has competition, other than Williams, is Bill Broadaway in District 2. The rest of the city council districts that have candidates who have filed -- Districts 1 and 6 -- remain uncontested.

Candidates have until noon Friday to file.
