The Goldsboro Police Department is working to identify the person responsible for shooting two people at the intersection of South George and West Pine streets Tuesday night.
One of the victims also fled the scene and remains unidentified.
Reginald Antwan Fields, 30, of Prince Avenue, was shot multiple times including at least one round in the back. Fields was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Fields had to be driven by ambulance to Greenville due to the Life Flight helicopter being grounded by weather. He is expected to survive.
"We do have leads we are following up on," Maj. Anthony Carmon said. "The family is all up in arms, but they have been cooperating to a degree."
The shooting took place at about 9:49 p.m. Tuesday. Officers at the scene said they were at an alarm call nearby and actually heard the shots. Although they arrived within seconds, the shooter and the second victim -- reportedly wounded in the foot -- were able to get away.
"A gentleman did show up at (Wayne Memorial) Hospital last night seeking treatment, but then, he wasn't wounded in the foot," Carmon said. Investigators are still working to determine if that individual, or if several other reports of shots fired Tuesday night in areas adjacent to the crime scene, are connected.
"If we can talk to Mr. Fields today, we're hoping we can get some more information," Carmon said.
