A traffic stop initiated by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office after 10 p.m. Saturday turned into a high-speed pursuit when the driver failed to stop.
The chase led all the way through downtown Kinston in Lenoir County before returning to Wayne County, where the driver eventually gave up.
Kenneth Joseph Timmons, 34, 6005 Brightleaf Road, is charged with fleeing to elude arrest, DWI and a previous warrant for hit-and-run. He was place in the Wayne County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
Maj. Tom Effler said the hit and run warrant originated with the Goldsboro Police Department. He said the N.C. Highway Patrol and Lenoir County Sheriff's Office assisted with the pursuit.
"GPD had a hit-and-run on him and our guys spotted the vehicle around N.C. Highway 55 and N.C. Highway 111 and initiated a stop. The stop became a chase and went into Lenoir County, came back into Wayne County and came to a stop at Lake Wackena Road," Effler said.
Timmons, driving a 2000 Nissan Frontier, pulled over on U.S. 70 East near Lake Wackena Road in front of the Walnut Creek community and surrendered. He was taken into custody without incident and charged.
Timmons is due to appear in Wayne County District Court later today.
