SEVEN SPRINGS -- The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious fire that took place in Seven Springs on Wednesday.
The damage and the blaze were not reported, however, until Friday. A cause for the blaze has still not been determined.
According to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report, the Wayne County Office of Emergency Services requested an investigator respond to 4624 N.C. 55 East where a house fire had been ruled suspicious.
The occupant, Harold Edward Barwick, 42, had been the tenant and not the owner, according to the report.
Jonathan Wesley Griffin, 40, of Seven Springs told investigators his father owned the property and had been in the process of evicting Barwick.
The only furniture inside the residence was a broken television and an "old couch that a dead dog was lying on when the fire was put out," the report said.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
