Goldsboro police respond to a call of a person who had been hit by a car near the Piggly Wiggly on Lionel Street Thursday evening. The victim had not been struck but leaped from the car when another man in the car allegedly pulled a gun on him. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A Knightdale man jumped out of a moving car and sustained non-life-threatening injuries Thursday after the man he was riding with turned a gun on him and threatened to kill him.

The incident took place at 5:47 p.m. in front of the Piggly Wiggly at 100 Lionel St.

Rontraga Antwan George, 38, told Goldsboro police he was riding in a silver four-door Lexus when the driver pulled out a revolver and said he would kill him, according to a Goldsboro police report.

The driver, not identified on the report, is described as a black man, bald, approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds.

There was no indication of how fast the car might have been traveling at the time George jumped out.

Wayne County EMS and the Goldsboro Fire Department responded to the scene and found George lying in the street. Firefighters on the scene said George suffered heavy road rash.

A large crowd of onlookers assembled and police officers were kept busy telling people to clear the area while EMS workers placed George onto a backboard and stretcher. He was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Goldsboro police officer Phillip French said any other injuries George might have sustained would have to be determined at the hospital.

"(The call) came out like a crash but obviously it wasn't," he said. "He dove from inside the vehicle."
