Tickets are now on sale for the 11th annual Lobster and Shrimp Fest, sponsored by the Partnership for Children of Wayne County and coming up on Friday, May 1.

It's all for a "good claws," says Charles Ivey, executive director of the Partnership.

Proceeds for the Partnership's signature fundraiser benefit various projects and services offered by the non-profit.

These include fellowships for child care teachers continuing their education at Wayne Community College or the University of Mount Olive, training for child care providers and parents, as well as events for preschool children during the year.

When the event was first introduced, it was solely a Lobster Fest, with the shrimp option later added. Last year, side orders of baked potato and corn on the cob, for an additional $5 per plate, became another option.

Each $25 ticket covers the choice of one 1.25 Main lobster, live or cooked, or shrimp of a comparable value, which can also be ordered either cooked or frozen.

Orders are being taken in advance until April 24 and may be picked up on May 1 at the Partnership office, 800 N. William Street, between 2 and 6 p.m.

While individual orders are available, the Partnership is also looking for families or groups to hold lobster parties and invite guests to purchase lobster and shrimp tickets. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible, Ivey said.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Partnership office, 919-735-3371, or by contacting a board member.
