A Goldsboro woman defended herself with a knife Saturday when her boyfriend broke into her home, assaulted her and stole her cell phone, a Goldsboro police report said.

The incident took place at 8:30 p.m.

Jerronte Parks, 36, 408 Gulley St., is charged with first-degree burglary and larceny after breaking and entering. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

According to a Goldsboro police report, Parks was stabbed four times after breaking into his girlfriend's Day Circle apartment through a window, assaulting her by strangulation and stealing her cell phone.

Parks fled the residence and was located later at a nearby apartment and arrested.

Capt. Dwayne Dean said the distance between the victim's apartment and the apartment in which Parks was later found is no more than 50 yards.

"He was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital and remains in the Wayne County Detention Center," Dean said.

The woman who stabbed Parks did so in self-defense and therefore was not charged, he added.

"The victim was protecting herself from imminent harm and was well within her rights with regard to how she defended herself," Dean said.
