FREMONT -- Fremont residents and visitors are expected to line Main Street this Saturday for the town's 29th annual Daffodil Festival that celebrates the yellow flower associated with the arrival of spring.

Patrons of the festival have no excuse to leave hungry. Food will be plenty at the festival and brought in by both local and commercial vendors. There will be smoked turkey legs, ribs, barbecue, pork chops, barbecue chicken, barbecue turkey, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries, fried peanuts, kettle corn, philly cheese steaks, fajitas, blooming onions, cotton candy, funnel cakes, shaved ice, fresh squeezed lemonade and more.

But not to worry -- festival organizers have lined up The Embers for this year's main concert, so you can dance well into the evening and watch those calories from the treats of the day fade away.

Shops will also line the road so visitors can purchase handmade crafts and gifts, or can stop into the Fremont Heritage Museum to see historical displays.

Children will be able to play until their hearts are content in Children's Alley, which will have a musical chair swing, a kiddie motorcycle, a carousel, a dragon hide and slide, a mechanical bull, inflatables, a rock climbing wall, remote control racing and a carousel bounce. Other patrons will be able to compete in the official Daffodil Corn Hole Tournament.

Plenty of other performers are also scheduled throughout the day.

Fremont Preschool will entertain the crowd beginning at 10:30 a.m., and will be followed by Fremont STARS at 10:50 a.m.

Daffodil festivities this year kicked off on March 8 with the crowning of Miss Daffodil, Kristin Limbaugh, and Little Miss Daffodil, Dakota Ethridge, both of whom will take the stage at 11:15 a.m., accompanied by Miss Goldsboro, Victoria Baskett.

The Embers begin their concert at noon, and will be followed by the Barry Stallings Family.

Helen Gillespe will perform and charm the crowd beginning at 3 p.m., and will be followed by special entertainment beginning at 4 p.m.

Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day, and a drawing for winners of prizes will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Official opening ceremonies, with Reigning Miss Daffodil and Little Miss Daffodil, will begin at 10 a.m.
