Pastor Bill Rose of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro addresses his congregation Sunday, thanking the many supporters who contributed to the construction of the church's new $2.5 million youth education center, dedicated moments earlier.

First Pentecostal Holiness Church held a grand opening Sunday for its new $2.5 million student center.

Pastor Bill Rose said the center is the result of a year of planning and another year of construction work.

"We thank our great God, church leadership and our faithful and generous congregation," he said during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The church is dedicated to its youths, Rose said, and the center is proof of its commitment. The 21,000-square-foot facility is designed to accommodate more than 600 children, he said.

"There is a preschool room, ages 3 to 5, an elementary room, first through fifth grade, middle school, sixth to eighth grade, and high school, ninth to 12th grade," Rose said as members of the congregation toured the new building.

Also part of the center is an area designed for college-age students.

The state-of-the-art center is completely automated, with a check-in system that uses wrist bands that are scanned so a computer knows where children are at all times. Outside each room sits an interactive video console. On Sunday, they commanded the rapt attention of adults and children alike.

The center also contains an indoor playground and lodge to serve to entertain the preschoolers while a large theater with a stage and instruments set up for a full band will cater to the older youths.

Rose and his wife, Lynne, thanked those who attended Sunday's service and dedication -- between 300 and 500 people filled the auditorium for the 10:45 a.m. service -- and the many who helped fund the new facility.
