DUDLEY -- A brawl broke out at Southern Wayne High School Wednesday afternoon, with six students being charged and one student sustaining a minor injury.
Wayne County Public Schools communications director Ken Derksen said the fight began at the end of the school's lunch period at 1:30 p.m.
"It occurred in the hallway outside the school's media center," Derksen said. "The staff was able to break it up quickly.'
Lt. Richard Blizzard of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said the altercation involved two groups of three friends.
"One group was accusing a guy from the other group of stealing property," he said.
During the fight, one student sustained a laceration to a finger. His hand went through a small display case, Blizzard said.
"All five have been charged with disorderly conduct and affray. The sixth one cut his finger, and they thought he might need stitches. After he is treated he will be charged as well."
Today the sheriff's office released the names of four students charged as a result of the incident. Ke'Sahwn Tyreak Lattner, 16, Tyronne Daquez McKinnon, 17, Kristopher Marquez Faison, 17, and Andrew Lee Pratt, 18, are each charged with disorderly conduct at school and affray.
All four students were placed in the Wayne County Jail, each under a $1,000 secured bond.
Additional charges could be added at a later time.
