PRINCETON -- A public meeting will be held in March regarding proposed improvements to U.S. 70 at its intersections with Martin Livestock Road and Pondfield Road near Princeton in Johnston County.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will host the informal meeting from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 at the Princeton Town Hall at 503 Dr. Donnie H. Jones Blvd.
"Both intersections on U.S. 70 have full access, meaning that you can turn left or turn right or continue straight no matter which direction you are coming from," said Jennifer Garifo Heiss, DOT communications officer. "There have been several crashes at these locations in recent years. NCDOT performed a safety study at both locations and determined that the following improvements would be the best way to eliminate the possibility of crashes caused by cars turning left in front of traffic."
At the intersection of U.S. 70 and Pondfield Road, drivers on both directions of U.S. 70 will still be able to turn left or turn right on Pondfield, she said.
Drivers on Pondfield will only be able to turn right onto U.S. 70.
At the intersection of Martin Livestock and U.S. 70, drivers will not be able to turn left. Any drivers wanting to turn left will have to turn right and make a U-turn at the next available location.
Written comments or questions can be submitted at the meeting or to NCDOT Senior Public Involvement Officer Diane Wilson at 1598 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699 by no later than Tuesday, March 24. Maps for the project can be viewed on the at www.ncdot.gov/projects/publicmeetings/.
