Two Wayne County Emergency Medical Services employees were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital Sunday morning after the ambulance they were riding in was involved in a one-vehicle wreck in Greene County.
Jeremy Rouse, 24, intermediate EMT, was treated and released and Kenneth "Kenny" Hamilton, 44, a paramedic, was transferred to Vidant Hospital in Greenville.
They were returning to Goldsboro around 8:25 a.m. Sunday after transferring a heart patient to Vidant Hospital in Greenville when the accident occurred.
No patient was onboard at the time of the wreck.
Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Carraway said the wreck occurred on U.S. 258/ U.S. 13 near its intersection with Newell Road just north of Snow Hill.
Carraway said that Rouse, who was driving, told him the vehicle struck an icy patch on the road causing him to lose control.
The vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a ditch before landing on its driver's side in the middle of Newell Road, Carraway said.
The 2014 ambulance suffered extensive front-end damage, he said. Initial damages were estimated at $15,000.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing, Carraway said.
