Wayne County Arts Council to welcome guest to concert

Singer Mavis Poole will be the guest artist at the PNC Presents Wayne County Jazz Showcase Friday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Arts Council of Wayne County.
Ms. Poole was born and raised in Durham to musical parents. While at North Carolina Central University, she was in all choirs and ensembles as well as the marching band.
She has received several honors, including being a Port Townsend Centrum Jazz Festival participant, Betty Carter Jazz Ahead, Sisters in Jazz and the featured artist for music networks like Reverb Nation, Indie Music Universe and SonicBids.
Ms. Poole has shared the stage, studied with and recorded with such jazz greats as Roy Hargrove, Dr. Billy Taylor, Fred Wesley, Dead Prez, Nicholas Payton, Kurt Elling, Gerri Allen, Mos Def, Hot 8 Brass Band, Dave Chapelle, Chip Jackson, Carmen Lundy and others.
She has appeared on TV on "Jimmy Fallon Late Night," "The Monique Show" and the CBS Morning Show. She has performed at the New Orleans JazzFest, Jazz in the Gardens and Coachella and at other venues such as House of Blues and Jazz, Appollo Theater and Birdland Nueburg.
The jazz showcase is hosted by musician Eric Xavier, featuring the Eric Xavier Band, Jasmine Best and Christian Dashiell.
At 6 p.m. Friday, in partnership with the Paramount Theatre, there will be a screening of a documentary video of musicians featured in the African American Music Heritage Trail at the Arts Council. Arts Council staff will be on hand to collect information from local African American musicians for the Music Heritage Trail website and directory.
The jazz showcase is free.
