A masked man armed with a pistol entered the Papa John's Pizza at 2617 Royall Ave. sometime between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. Monday and left minutes later with an undetermined amount of cash.
Sgt. Dale Foster said the suspect showed his weapon to the employee manning the cash register and demanded money.
"He didn't ever point the weapon," Foster said.
The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Goldsboro police officers got the call at 9:54 p.m. and within minutes swarmed the entire area, searching both inside and outside the pizza delivery store for leads.
Patrol cars swept through the Big Lots parking lot, the area around Sam's Club and wound up checking the parking area in front of Gold's Gym, located just behind the strip mall that is home to Papa John's.
A K-9 unit called to the scene was able to track the suspect, but no farther than the area around Gold's Gym.
The suspect is described as a black man, 6 feet 2 inches tall wearing a black and yellow mask and a trench coat. His pistol had a scope of some sort attached to it, Foster said.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255, or text tips to 919-222-4230. Tips that lead to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
