A Goldsboro man allegedly attempting to pass a forged check at a local bank got more than he bargained for when tellers noticed the phony signature, according to a Wayne County Sheriff' Office press release.

Tyquan Nakeem Coley, 22, is charged by the sheriff's office with uttering a forged instrument, and by the Goldsboro Police Department with resisting arrest. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond.

According to the report, Coley entered the BB&T branch at East Ash Street and William Street and attempted to pass a stolen check.

The check had been reported stolen to the sheriff's office by a Wayne County resident weeks earlier.

Personnel from inside the bank called police and GPD officers responded.

Maj. Tom Effler of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said that is when Coley tried to run.

"The Goldsboro police went out there to the bank and he took off running. They caught up with him," Effler said.

The officers charged Coley with resisting arrest and then went on to notify the sheriff's office Criminal Investigations Division.

CID then charged Coley with uttering, Effler said.

Coley is due in Wayne County District Court today and again Jan. 13 to answer for the separate charges.
