A fight at a residence on Peachtree Street led to a stabbing Friday which resulted in both the victim and the suspect being transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Witnesses said the attack was part of a robbery attempt, but police are, for now, simply calling the altercation a fight.

Terrence Duncan, 35, of 1901 Peachtree St., received several stab wounds to the abdomen and neck areas, according to a Goldsboro Police Department press release.

The GPD got the call at 1:03 p.m. and patrol officers were at the scene within minutes.

Upon arrival, the officers located Duncan inside of the home at 400 N. Taylor St. He was immediately taken by Wayne County EMS to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Daniel Darden, 23, of Jacksonville, was located a few hundred yards down the street. The knife was still in his hands, according to the press release.

He was taken into custody without incident.

The police report said the fight broke out inside Duncan's residence and that Darden stabbed Duncan several times. Duncan then ran to a neighbor's house to escape and to call for help.

Darden was walking away from the scene when police arrived, but once in custody, he began complaining of heart trouble.

"He was complaining of chest pains. He has a history of heart problems -- something he said he was born with," Sgt. Dale Foster said, adding that Darden was, at that time, transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then later released into police custody.

Foster said he expected Darden would be charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill once he was released from hospital custody and back in GPD hands -- an estimation later confirmed by the press release.

Foster could not, however, confirm the neighbor's reports of past robbery attempts.

"He did not communicate anything to us about this being a robbery," Foster said.

Patrol officers secured two scenes -- the house Duncan ran to for help and the yard in front of 1909 B Peachtree Street where Darden was apprehended.

A knife and a jacket, allegedly Darden's, were recovered at the scene.

Two neighbors, who asked not to be identified, said that multiple attempts have been made recently to break into Duncan's home.

"Them boys tried three or four times to rob him in the last couple months. They know he's got a good job," one of the men said.

Darden is due to appear in Wayne County District Court Monday, charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
