A C.B. Aycock High School student charged with possession of a weapon on school property also shot at students with a BB gun while they were walking home from school Friday, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office press release. No injuries were reported.

Nicholas Gene White, 16, 1560 W. New Hope Road, is charged with possession of a weapon on school property. He was cited and released and also received disciplinary action from the school, the release said.

White's charges mark the fourth run-in between law enforcement and an Aycock student in less than a week. Three students were charged Dec. 3 after a fight at the school -- during which one student was tased by a school resource officer -- and additional security was provided the by the sheriff's office the next day due to threats made after the altercation.

Maj. Tom Effler said the two incidents are completely unrelated.

"This is a totally different group of kids," he said.

White was allegedly in a car Friday afternoon with some other people when he opened fire on a group of students walking home. The students reported the incident Monday morning which prompted an investigation conducted by CBA principal Dr. Earl Moore and School Resource Officers Deputy Remarko Atkinson and Deputy William Kates.

Atkinson and Kates recovered the BB gun from White's car, which was parked on campus.

Wayne County Public Schools communications director Ken Derksen reiterated there was no connection between White's being charged and the fight on campus last week.

"Everything I have been told, there is no connection," he said.

Derksen went on to thank the sheriff's office for its assistance in Monday's investigation.

"We appreciate the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for all their help in identifying the suspect," he said.

No further charges are pending against White at this time and the investigation is closed.

The victims in the case, not identified in the press release, were advised of the warrant process in case they wanted to press charges against White for assault.

"They would just have to go down to the magistrate's office. Or their parents would. We can't charge him because we didn't see it," Effler said.
