A Goldsboro teenager is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail this morning after allegedly beating a New York woman in the head several times with a metal pipe, according to a Goldsboro police report.
John Carlton Jr., 19, of 218 Rosewood Ave., is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
"The report was a domestic, stemming from a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship," Maj. Al King said.
According to the report, police were called to the scene of a fight involving weapons at 218 Rosewood Ave. at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they learned the fight was regarding a prior domestic assault.
The victim of that assault, Shakora Melanie Davis, 20, of New York, was just managing to reach help at that time.
While on the scene at the Rosewood Avenue address, a second call came in that a woman had been assaulted at 2217 S. Slocumb St.
Through their investigation, the officers determined that Carlton had taken Ms. Davis to a dirt lot behind 2217 S. Slocumb and fought with her using his hands and feet to strike her in the head and body. He then hit her in the head several times with a metal pipe, the report said.
Ms. Davis escaped by crawling into a ditch and eluding Carlton until he gave up and headed home, where he was met by Ms. Davis' mother and aunt, with whom he was fighting when police initially arrived.
Ms. Davis managed to get to a home near the lot where she was beaten and call for help. She was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Carlton admitted to police he had been fighting fight with Ms. Davis and said she tried to hit him with the pipe, which he blocked with his hand.
Carlton was also transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital where it was determined his hand was fractured.
