The Goldsboro Country Club, which received its charter nearly 70 years ago, will close by the end of the year.
Less than 70 years after receiving its charter from the state, the Goldsboro Country Club will close its doors.
A member of the club's board of directors would not divulge just why the decision was made, but confirmed that the facility would shut down.
It started with a group of 10 -- and the purchase of seven acres of land adjacent to the Goldsboro Golf Club.
In November 1947, stockholders held their first meeting -- and by March of the following year, the club had a charter.
The building, itself, did not begin to take shape until 1949, when J. Luther Helms was hired to construct the club for $87,494.
It is unclear just when the building will be locked up for the final time, but the board member who discussed its closure with The News-Argus said that would occur by the end of the year.
