In just a few more days, Goldsboro will mark the official start of the Christmas season with holiday light -- and a little snow.

The Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. will host Downtown Lights Up! on Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m.

With the flip of a switch, downtown will be transformed as the city's decorative lights are lit for the very first time this season.

Center Street also might be a little whiter this year. DGDC is hauling in tons of snow to set the tone for the holiday season. The snow will be placed in the center median of the 200 block of Center Street, in front of City Hall.

Mayor Al King, Santa, the Grinch and children of the community will ride down Center Street in a horse-drawn trolley to welcome visitors.

DGDC officials expect more than 2,000 guests at the event, and the 200 block of North Center Street will be closed from 2 to 8 p.m. that day.

Several holiday entertainment events will take place after the mayor's ride, such as face painting and trolley rides. Warm beverages and treats will be offered.

The North Carolina Symphony will perform its annual holiday Christmas concert at 8 p.m. that evening at the Paramount Theatre in conjunction with Downtown Lights Up! Tickets are $32 each.
