The Arts Council of Wayne County is sponsoring the first-ever Downtown Art Walk on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 5 until 8 p.m.

Participants will go to the Arts Council and pick up a card that lists 15 local businesses -- and a map showing where the businesses are located.

From there, participants will travel to each business and get their card stamped. While there, they will have the opportunity to meet a local artist and have some refreshments.

After they have been to all 15 businesses, they take their card back to the Arts Council, where it is put into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to the Arts Council's Holiday Art Market.

"The goal is to get stamps from all 15 businesses and bring it back to the Arts Council," director Sarah Merritt said. "At each business, there will be a local artist. Some will have their artwork and some will be actually working on a piece of art. There will be jewelers, painters, photographers and musicians."

And you don't have to walk to each business. You can run, ride your bike, skip, hop, jump or drive, Mrs. Merritt said.

But you must take your card back to the Arts Council with all 15 stamps by 8 p.m. to be eligible for the drawing, as a winner will be crowned at 8:30.

The Downtown Art Walk is free.

Mrs. Merritt said it's something the Arts Council has wanted to do since moving to its current location at 102 N. John St.

The 15 businesses and groups that are participating in the event are the Arts Council of Wayne County, the Optimist Club of Goldsboro, the Wayne County Museum, the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp., The Yoga Connection, The Flying Shamrock, the Habitat for Humanity Restore, Jojo's, Ed's Southern Food and Spirits, Earth Gallery of Art, the Dancing Butterfly, Uniquely R's, The Paramount Theatre, The Village Rising and Emiline's Candy and Emporium.
