Communities in Schools of Wayne County will celebrate its successes from the past year on Thursday during its annual community partner meeting.
The annual event, being held at Bethel Church on William Street, starts at 9 a.m.
"It's not a fundraiser. It's simply an opportunity where we have invited businesses and civic groups and individuals as well as groups like the county commissioners, school board, city council, those agencies, businesses and individuals that have contributed to CIS in whatever way," said Selena Bennett, the executive director of CIS.
"It doesn't have to be their financial support but their resources to us. This is a way of coming together, a way of sharing our end of the year data."
The event will feature highlights of the past year, from how many children were served to accomplishments in the various programs.
"We'll have greetings from our CIS state office, my regional consultant will be here and will bring greetings," she said. "We'll also have a spotlight on our mentoring program and then we have several other surprises where we'll showcase our successes from the year."
The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning more about Communities in Schools, Mrs. Bennett said.
"It's a season of thanksgiving for a community of support because in order for us to be successful as an agency we have to work very closely (together)," she said.
Among its ongoing partnerships are Wayne County Public Schools, with success coaches serving at six schools, as well as area attorneys and the district attorney's office, which supports the CIS Teen Court program.
"This is just an opportunity for us to say thank you and to highlight our successes," Mrs. Bennett said. "It connects the dots for the community. It shows how we are a support system to better the lives of children in Wayne County."
