Wayne Community College will host a talk by a Mexican diplomat Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium.
Javier Diaz de Leon, who assumed the post of Consul General in Raleigh last year, will talk about the role of his office during "The Consulate General of Mexico in Raleigh: Promoting Integration and Empowerment."
One of Diaz de Leon's goals is to improve the understanding here and in Mexico of the strength of the economic relationship between the two.
Mexico was the second largest market for North Carolina goods in 2013, a value of $2.7 million, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce's International Trade Administration.
The relationship between the United States and Mexico also exists because of the work of immigrants.
Diaz de Leon's message to Mexican immigrants is to be proud of their heritage, but become part of their new communities, contribute and take pride in being North Carolinians. The college will also have an International Festival Nov. 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will feature country and cultural displays, activities, quizzes and games in the atrium. There will be dance performances in Moffatt Auditorium.
The lecture and festival are free. For more information, call 919-739-6899.
