The Goldsboro Police Department is crediting community involvement with helping solve a motor vehicle break-in and larceny that took place in broad day light Monday.

Two men are in jail on felony larceny and other charges after citizens who witnessed their crime called police and stayed on the line until the suspects were caught, Maj. Al King said.

"Kudos to the citizens that got involved. Had they not been on the phone we would have been investigating this as an 'after the fact' sort of thing," King said.

Trevon Cassandova Hickson, 19, 506 S. Slocumb St., and Brian Keith King, 19, 311 B Charles St., are charged with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle and larceny.

Both have been placed in the Wayne County Jail, each under a $1,500 secured bond.

The arrests took place at 2:45 p.m. following a brief investigation.

According to a police report, witnesses saw Hickson walking away from a vehicle that had its passenger window smashed out in the parking lot of the Children's Place, 1207 B N. Berkeley Blvd., located in the same shopping center as Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Hickson walked to the wooded area behind the stores and stood there awhile before joining King in front of Old Navy, the report said.

The witnesses who called police remained on the line with them and kept the suspects in view.

GPD patrol officers arrived and detained Hickson and King while conducting their investigation.

The witnesses visually identified both suspects, according to the report.

And some of the property stolen from the vehicle was also recovered, King said.

"From a small briefing I attended this morning, I can say that part of the stolen items were recovered, but we were unable to locate a purse and its contents," he said.
